A video of a Glasgow window cleaner working on the fourth floor of a tenement building without any safety equipment has sparked fears over people working a height.

The video, which was captured by an onlooker and published by The Telegraph sparked fears over employees working at height. The video shows a window cleaner with no harness or ladder precariously standing on a ledge to clean windows.

HSE Concern

The Health and Safety Executive stated that they could not comment as it was unknown if the man was connected to a professional company and could have just been a member of the public cleaning windows, however, a spokesman said: "Falls from height are one of the biggest causes of workplace fatalities and major injuries, and we would hope anyone working at height took necessary precautions to prevent an incident."

Falls From Height

According to statistics from the Health and Safety Executive, falls from height are the second biggest cause of fatal accidents in the UK, and account for over 30% of all fatal accidents in workplaces. Falls from height are likely to result in serious injuries, even with some safety equipment. Most falls result in death, broken limbs, brain damage or fractures. It is your employer's duty to ensure that you have the proper safety equipment in your workplace. If you do not it is imperative that you contact work officials or the Health and Safety Executive.
