The family of a woman who died from cancer caused by workplace asbestos are trying to contact former workers at the same factory to take up legal action.

Frances Hamilton died last year after being diagnosed with mesothelioma, a form of cancer caused by consumption or exposure to asbestos fibres and chemicals. The 75-year-old had worked at the Templeton carpet factory in Glasgow from the late 50s for around 15 years, and her family believe that it was at this factory that she was exposed to the poisonous fibres that would eventually claim her life.

Her family have hired a legal team and have since attempted to take legal action against the factory which they believe has led to the illness.

What Can You Do If You Need To Make A Historical Claim?

Sadly if you are exposed to asbestos, you may be at risk of picking up serious illnesses in the future, with numerous factories and workplaces from mid-90s often having asbestos present. It is common in mechanical jobs and also if you worked in a factory. Asbestos could also be present in some homes also. In reality, anyone could be suffering from an illness due to exposure to asbestos. Indeed, it is estimated that 50% of all asbestos used remains in public buildings.

If you believe you have been exposed to asbestos and are suffering from an illness or disease as a result, it is important that you seek medical advice. Not only will this grant you peace of mind knowing that your conditions are being assessed and monitored, but your doctor will be able to inform you if your illness is a result of asbestos exposure. If you have been exposed to asbestos, you may be entitled to make a claim and receive damages as a result.

If a loved one you know has died from asbestos-related illnesses there is usually a three minute limitation period, however if there is proof that the death was a result of asbestos the time period may be shorter.
